Did you know that Dauphin Island was known by early explorers as "Massacre Island"? in fact, the history of Dauphin Island is quite remarkable. To whet your appetite, I've included the most interesting history facts on the 2014 Dauphin Island Map. Dauphin Island is a true barrier island. It is completely surrounded by Gulf and Bay waters. It is connected to land by one very tall bridge. The island climate provides a home to tropical plants, birds, and sea creatures galore. Long-time Dauphin Island residents have always known it's a paradise. But many of them maintain a laid-back, low-key lifestyle.
